Out of the South and into the City

Rain Rain Go Away

My life in New York may seen like sunshine and rainbows but that is not always the case. Especially when it rains.

New York in the rain is miserable. If there is even a chance that it might rain or you see a questionable cloud in the sky, make sure you are armed with an umbrella and an extra pair of shoes because you are going to get wet.

This afternoon, I walked into a meeting right as a downpour began. I was hoping the meeting would last long enough to avoid the storm but unfortunately, that was not the case. So when you are stuck in the city and the rain is coming down, what do you do?

If you can get a cab, this is the kind of day when it will be worth it. There is always the chance that you will end up standing in the rain, getting wet anyway, and still never find a free cab.

I think the best option is to head for the subway, especially if it’s close. Today, the subway was only 2 blocks away.

In those two blocks I still managed to get soaked. The worst part was the unavoidable four inch thick puddle waiting for me in the entrance to the subway. Yeah, it was gross.

Of course, by the time I got to my side of town, the rain had subsided and I had a pleasant walk home. Except for the part when a cab drove by and splashed dirty rain water all over me. I know, so cliché.
